Businesses in Brisbane will get better with New Broadband Plans

Tuesday, April 20th, 2010

Lord Mayor Campbell Newman of Brisbane has decided to get broadband networks with high speed connectivity to the businesses and residents of Brisbane. Based upon a recent survey, speed of the connectivity was more than half (61%) and it was “critical”. Cr Newman said that, “My point to the Federal Government has continued to be if you come to Brisbane you will deal with one local government organization and do a million people and tens of thousands of businesses, So we would like to see NGB progressed in Brisbane first and we are looking into ways to make that happen.’’

The federal government has made new ideas, so as to bring out network to all people across regional, rural and metropolitan areas. Cr Newman has made talks with the government, academic leaders and industry to offer high speed broadband. He quoted that, “Irrespective of what the Federal Government does, they are putting forward proposals because they want a roll out in our city right now,’’ “And there are technologies that dramatically undercut the delivery of that physical infrastructure that we are keen to progress.’’

Cr Newman addressed the audience during the forum at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre and said that, “Do you really want to go back to the Brisbane of 1985? “There were no CityCats, there was no outdoor dining, you couldn’t get petrol anywhere after about midday.
“Growth comes with impacts but growth is a lever … to take the money off those development companies (and create) a city with more creativity, culture, innovation, excitement and opportunities for our people.’’

William Thompson, the 17-year-old Kedron State high school student made the Mayor to stumble over his speech and said, “There seems to be an underlying message of `we’re better than other cities’ and I was wondering what’s with that?’’ and the audience broke up with laugher.

WiMax Broadband Service will get a Giant leap in India

Sunday, April 18th, 2010

Nearly 8.59 million people use broadband in India during the end of February 2010, and there will be a leap of 100 million broadband subscribers by 2014. Spokes person from Intel has told that, “Wireless technologies such as WiMax (worldwide interoperability for microwave access) will drive the broadband growth in India”. Lil Mohan Intel managing director (WiMax programme office-APAC and META business development) added that, “India has over 8.5 million broadband customers as of now and the copper line infrastructure is limited. So going wireless is the only option for India and the growth will come from wireless technologies like WiMax”.

Wimax offers high speed data transfer which helps on faster downloads of data, songs film or anything from the internet. Over the next four years most of the broadband would be on wireless system which is easy for the user as well as the service provider. Mohan also quoted that, “The next few years are big for WiMax and one would see huge growth in numbers. High-speed data access is expected to bridge the urban-rural digital divide and help address concerns of delivering essential services like education, finance and healthcare”.

According to a study by McKinsey, GDP increases by 0.6 percent for every 10 percent increase in broadband penetration in the country. Mohan also said that, “Pricing is going to be important as it has been for the telecom industry. It will provide people access to high-speed broadband, which will further bring in growth for the economy.”  The government of India has assigned Rs.1750 crore for the pan-India spectrum license. 2.3 MHz spectrum of two blocks will be available for auction and bidders can launch their services immediately to increase the broadband services for customers.

There will be a great revolution in broadband connectivity and speed especially in Wireless service within few years. Let’s wait for the Wire free World.

Know about Broadband!

Monday, September 7th, 2009

Unlike a dial-up connection where Internet can be accessed by dialing through the phone line, the Broadband providers have the options of transmitting data at a higher speed. In this way, you can actually carry more information than the dial-up connection. When Broadband fist became popular, the speed was 56 kbits per second. Now one can access data at a speed of 30mbits per second. Now it has become economical. However the price of Broadband depends on geographical locations. The sad thing about Broadband is that you cannot have easy access to this connection. Most people in rural areas have to take help of expensive satellite broadband connection in order to get connected with the main Broadband connection. In case of Broadband connection, the users have a number of options like cable, DSL and satellite. In case of DSL line, the subscribers will have to take help of a phone line for carrying the digital signals. In this case, there is no need to convert the signals to analog signals. Most computers use baseband transmissions. In this case, only one signal can be sent through a single wire. If the computer is connected with the printer, the baseband transmission comes handy. The function of a broadband accelerator is to connect the router with the broadband connection. An IP address is generated by the router which is used for transmission.
