In the recent years the number of broadband users has rapidly increased at the same time there is also a rapid increase in the mobile data users. The more percentage mobile traffic is due to the increased number of users accessing social networking sites on the mobile devices.

As of now there are more than 1 million Facebook users and Ericson will enable them to connect anywhere at any time all over the world. By the end of 2009, Lebanon’s mobile penetration reached 60% which was higher than that of the last year. It has been predicted that there will be a rapid growth of mobile connectivity by 2010 due to large expat community who regularly visit Lebanon.

The mobile broadband will cause a giant leap in the coming years, IP based technologies and network modernization in turn lead to scalable efficiency gains in other sectors

BT provides 87% fibre network by spring 2011 to citizens of London

BT has planned to speed up the broadband internet service by connecting all homes and business by spring 2011. More than 87 percent of the broadband will be turned into fibre networks. As of now only 3 percent of the people enjoy the fibre network connection by BT and presently Chingford, Enfield, Muswell Hill, Edmonton, Tottenham and Thamesmead enjoy the high speed broadband connectivity with fibre network.

BT’s Chief executive Officer (CEO) has announced that, “London is already one of the best connected cities in the world, and our investment plan will ensure that it stays ahead of the pack”. He also added that, “Our investment will see Londoners have access to both fibre and advanced copper broadband services well in advance of the London Olympics.”

Boris Johnson, the mayor of London has welcomed the announcement of BT. He also said that, “The illustrious progenitor of the internet, Tim Berners-Lee, was born in this great city and it would be the ultimate tribute to him if London had the best digital games ever, not to mention the lifetime legacy of stronger internet infrastructure.”

Broadband user’s details revealed by UKOM

There has been a significant increase in the users of social networking sites and this was released by UK Online Measurement. According to the report these days’ customers use broadband for various purposes and for the past three years the trend has changed completely. According to the data, sixty five percent spent more time online when compared to the April 2007.

Decrease in rates, increased affordability, wider range and better access has helped to soar up the internet business. While coming to online activities social networking and blogging ranks first, second comes the email, the usage of email has lowered to due to social networking, but still seven perecent of them use internet regularly.

For the past three years social networking accounted for just nine percent, but it has reached an enormous growth of three hundred and forty percent. Three percent of online users use it regularly for reading the news.

Next generation Broadband to be rolled out by BT

BT has planned to roll out its super fast broadband network and has announced to expand its service. But at the same time it has also thirty five thousand jobs in the last two years. The next generation broadband will be expanded to homes from 40 percent to 60 percent and this was reported by the Financial Times. The total estimate of this project will cost around £1.5 billion.

But based upon the report by analysts, unless rival telecom firms rent usage of the infrastructure it would be difficult for BT to make return on the investment. There was a large cut in the employers that is nearly five thousands and this was largely on the temporary workers. Moreover there was a £9 billion hole in the company’s pension fund.
At the same time the company will return a profit of £1.1 billion which incurred a loss of £1.6 billion last year.BT global services has overestimated the income, reportedly including the deals with NHS and Thomson Reuters. Also BT has focused on increasing the profit at global service division, reported the Sunday Telegraph.
