It is easy to enhance the speed of broadband connection using either software or hardware, it increases your data transfer speed and offers high speed connectivity.

(1)Remove unwanted applications that reduce the broadband speed

Few of the applications such as automatically updating antivirus software, Skype and other desktop widgets could make the broadband connection sluggish. Automatically starting applications on start up must be turned off. It could in turn boost up your speed.

(2) Broadband speed must be tested at regular intervals

You might be waiting for a long time to download a particular software or application. But regular checking of the speed helps you to notice the change in speed from time to time. Even a slight variation in speed in microseconds could affect the downloading capacity. You can get it right either by contacting the broadband service provider or removing any unwanted applications in your system that affects the speed of computer. There are much online software’s to evaluate the speed of broadband connection.

(3)Change your modem or router

You may be provided with a modem of specific type when you have signed up for a new broadband connection. If the speed of your internet connection is dropping currently, it is essential to replace modem or router with a new one. 3G modem always require modern modems with latest technology to provide an uninterrupted broadband connection. Antenna type modems are more suitable for 3G connection.

In addition router has to be setup with maximum security as there are chances of people leaching your connection. More they leach the connection will become more slower. Also password should not be obvious it must be strong so as no one cannot login into your broadband account.

The speed of your wireless broadband may be a hit or a miss with so many reasons. You can increase the speed of your broadband by following some simple tips.

(1)Buy an Unlocked Modem

When you buy modems for a specific network it may be cheaper, but you have to use that modem for a life period or you will be tied to that network. It is essential to buy an unlocked modem that helps to choose your network or service provider as per your need. Choose a SIM card that fulfills your requirements, if you are a frequent traveler then choose a network that provides uninterrupted connection. In some places where there is lack of connection it will be filled by another provider in 3G network connections. Telstra, Bigpond and 3 share their networks while Virgin media shares it network with Optus.

(2)Use A USB Cable

Connect your laptop with the USB cable provided instead of plugging the dongle straight into the system. This reduces the electrical interference and provides more reception of the signal. You can get extra bandwidth and high speed from this.

(3)Change Your APN
Different APNs (Access Point Names) are assigned by mobile networks to customers on monthly contracts. Improved Band width can be received by paying an extra amount on the regular contract. You can get every kilobit per second from your connection. Signing up a long term deal with the networks such as Vodafone, 3 or Telstra can provide you high speed access.

(4) Switch to Open DNS
According to Wireless and mobile expert Paul, the DNS servers used in Wireless broadband services “tend to be pretty patchy.” DNS could take a longer time or could result in web address failure. Instead of that open DNS (www.opendns.com) can be used if the there is a delay in website loading.

The popularity of broadband Internet service is increasing with time. It is in fact one of the common option. Many people across the world are opting for broadband internet connection. The dial-up system is losing its ground in popularity after broadband system came into the market. You can collect more amount of information through broadband connection than dial up connection. The best part is that you can collect the information within a short span of time. Broadband internet connection is used both in offices and homes. Both businessmen and homeowners prefer to use broadband connection over others. Even, students also prefer to use it. It is very important to know how to obtain broadband connection.

Getting broadband internet service is not difficult. Many companies are offering broadband connection. Even the telephone companies are also providing this internet connection. It is very important to consider some important factors before selecting any broadband internet service package. You need to think for what purpose you want broadband connection. People, who work from home, will need speedy and reliable internet access. They need to transfer important documents within a short period of time. They may not need to transfer graphics or video. They can opt for higher bandwidth, if they have to transmit graphics and video. On the other hand, a smaller bandwidth can serve the purpose if you do not require transferring video or graphics. It will be less expensive than the higher bandwidth system. After considering these issues, you need to select the broadband internet package.

Broadband internet connection has revolutionized the world of communication. It is the process of sending and receiving information at a very high speed through a connection which is always on. Broadband connection is faster than dial up connection and you can actually download music videos and surf web pages in seconds rather than hours. Downloading program files becomes much easier through broadband.

There are many types of broadband connection like ADSL, cable modem, satellite, and wireless. Among them the most common is the ADSL (asymmetric digital subscriber line).DSL which means Digital Subscriber Line, uses the phone line to transfer the data to the subscriber but at a frequency higher than that used for usual telephone calls. This connection can manage both the internet connection and the phone line at the same time. Therefore you can actually enjoy talking on your phone while surfing the net.DSL has two types ADSL and Symmetric DSL .ADSL has high speed downstream connection, 544 kbps up to 6.1 Mbps, but slow upstream connection, ranging from 16 up to 640 Kbps.

In cable connection the information is transferred by the cable television to the subscriber through an optical fiber .the bundle of optical fiber can transfer the data without tampering signal frequencies in any way.

Apart from this, IDSL, HDSL, and SDSL are also broadband connections. While IDSL is similar to DSL, it works well when the travel is more than 6 miles. However IDSL is not provided by ADSL providers. HDSL is High bit-rate Digital Subscriber Line. It is used for wideband transmission from the provider to the subscriber and at both the ends the bandwidth is same. It is also used within a close circle like an office.

Therefore choose the type of broadband connection which suits your purpose and need. Stay connected, Stay ahead.

Unlike a dial-up connection where Internet can be accessed by dialing through the phone line, the Broadband providers have the options of transmitting data at a higher speed. In this way, you can actually carry more information than the dial-up connection. When Broadband fist became popular, the speed was 56 kbits per second. Now one can access data at a speed of 30mbits per second. Now it has become economical. However the price of Broadband depends on geographical locations. The sad thing about Broadband is that you cannot have easy access to this connection. Most people in rural areas have to take help of expensive satellite broadband connection in order to get connected with the main Broadband connection. In case of Broadband connection, the users have a number of options like cable, DSL and satellite. In case of DSL line, the subscribers will have to take help of a phone line for carrying the digital signals. In this case, there is no need to convert the signals to analog signals. Most computers use baseband transmissions. In this case, only one signal can be sent through a single wire. If the computer is connected with the printer, the baseband transmission comes handy. The function of a broadband accelerator is to connect the router with the broadband connection. An IP address is generated by the router which is used for transmission.

Beware Unlimited Broadband

One of the most common promotional offers you see banded around for broadband services is the so-called ‘unlimited’ broadband. For a certain fixed price on a monthly basis, these service proclaim the consumer’s dream – unmetered, unlimited bandwidth for a low fixed cost. When confronted with this kind of offer over a restricted package for the same price, which would you rather choose?

Actually this is something of a sting. Unlimited broadband is actually a metaphor for ‘limited broadband’ – quite the opposite. In fact, there’s very little difference between an unlimited broadband package and a limited package, which those who take advantage of the unlimited promise often find out to their detriment. False advertising? Probably. Can they do that? Well it seems as thought they’re getting away with it.

The legal justification is that indeed, broadband usage in unlimited. But that isn’t a no-strings offer. Broadband providers are required to pay variable amounts depending on your usage. For example, if one month you use twice what you used in the month previous, the provider will be required to pay a higher variable cost. Likely, if you go beyond your allowance on a standard, limited package, this bill will be passed on to you directly on your next account statement. Obviously then, offering unlimited usage is risky – after all if you’re charging a fixed price and someone uses over the paid-for allowance, it’s possible that the provider could end up footing the bill out of their own coffers, right?

That’s where the secret weapon comes in – ‘fair usage’. In the contract for unlimited broadband, there will (almost) always be a fair usage policy – i.e. your broadband usage is unlimited subject to fair use. In other words, abusing the broadband space by downloading tons of movies might put you outside the definition of ‘unlimited’. Sounds unfair? We’re not even started.

‘Fair usage’ is seldom defined within the contract itself – in other words, it’s left to interpretation. One man’s idea of what a fair use of a service may be is completely different from another. In fact, the customers idea of fair use (of an unlimited service) won’t meet with the preconception of the provider. And when all’s said and done, it’s the provider that holds the power – if you don’t like it and don’t pay up, you’ll lose your connectivity. Ultimately this means it’s down to the interpretation of particular broadband provider you’re with and the amount you’ve used your unlimited broadband over the course of that month.

Whilst it has as of yet met little legal or regulatory challenge, it would seem as though any logical advertising standards authority would be quick to shut down this clearly underhanded practice that doesn’t seem to deliver on its promises. For now though, it’s up to you to find the best unlimited provider for you – which may well be one that doesn’t argue.

Broadband is virtually essential nowadays for use in business and household settings, and as far as most people are concerned it beats dial-up hands down. Whilst we are all becoming more savvy and getting to grips with the lingo, broadband can still be a bit of a nightmare to navigate through for the first time buyer, or even the experienced user who can still find things a bit confusing. Here we’ve compiled a brief glossary of the terms you can expect to encounter in your journey into the world of broadband.

ADSL – (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) A form of broadband connection that operates through a traditional phoneline without jeopardising the quality or usability of the phoneline for telephone calls. This means you can share a line and surf the net whilst talking to friends.

Bandwidth – The rate at which information can be shared across a network – more bandwidth equates to the ability to share more information at the same time. Generally, you will pay for a set amount of bandwidth although some providers offer so-called ‘unlimited’ packages

Dynamic IP Address – A different unique address assigned to a computer every time it logs on to the Internet, that enables your particular computer to be identified at any given time.

Firewall – a software application that stops hackers and foreign bodies from accessing files on your computer and providers all round protection to your network.

Hotspot – an area in which wireless broadband can be accessed for free, or on a paid basis. These are often found in hotels or cafes.

ISP – (Internet Service Provider) The company that provides your broadband service and to whom you pay your monthly bill.

Kbps – (Kilobits per second) A way to measure bandwidth, in thousands of bits per second.

LAN – (Local Area Network) A network of nearby computers sharing one singular internet connection.

Mbps – (Megabits per second) A way to measure bandwidth in millions of bits per second – like Kbps, but larger.

Router – Allows multiple computers to be hooked up to one another to share information, as well as an Internet connection. Can be wireless also, and many broadband providers will include a router free of charge when you sign up for certain contract terms.

VOIP – (Voice Over Internet Protocol) A technology that allows telephone communications to take place over a digital phone line for enhanced quality and at a lower cost than traditional phone services.

This is by no means an exhaustive list of the technical jargon you’re likely to encounter. Unfortunately for you, this is only the beginning. However, provided you do your homework and research the market a bit, you should get a feeling for which type of service provides you with the best level of service at the best price, without getting too confused as to the intricacies of broadband technology.
